For years now gamers have speculated if Xbox 360 servers shutting down is a real possibility. From Reddit posts to Quora and more, social media sites have been frequently inundated with questions regarding Xbox 360 and its longevity.

So if you have an Xbox 360 or are planning to get one, then you should know concretely for sure if the servers are going offline. And I am here to give you that information. So read on below:

Will The Xbox 360 Servers Get Shut Down?

Know that there has been speculation for years now that Xbox 360’s servers might be shut down. Now, know that it can’t be so easily done. After all, even after more than a decade since its launch, the Xbox 360 remains a popular console.

Also, if the servers were to be shut down, it would be done on a game-by-game basis. So, worried that your console will totally ineffective and a piece of total junk that you will have to throw away? You don’t have to think about that.

This is because, at the very least, you will still be able to play the offline version of the games which allow them. However, if you use Xbox 360 to only play famous games like Halo or Metal Gear Solid 5, then I have bad news for you.

Halo And Metal Gear Solid 5’s Servers To Be Shut Down

Know that from December 2021 onwards Halo’s game services won’t work any longer. This means that you won’t be able to play it on your Xbox one 360. However, you will still be able to play the game on other newer consoles.

These are the Xbox 360 Halo versions that will stop working- Halo 3, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo Spartan Assault, Halo: Reach, Halo Wars, Halo 4, and Halo 3: ODST.

However, note that all the non-online features and aspects of the game should work. But, do know that since Halo is the biggest draw of Xbox 360 so it looks like the console will be effectively killed off finally when these Halo services become obsolete.

Also, making matters worse is the fact that game servers of Metal Gear Solid 5 are going offline as well. On May 31, 2022, the servers will be shut down forever. As such, this might mark the death of the Xbox 360. However, do note that nothing regarding server shutdowns have been announced for other games on the platform.

Now, server shutdowns are not uncommon. The main reason behind them is the constantly dwindling gamer base. However, the shutdown of Halo and MetalGearSolid5’s servers might spell doom for Xbox 360 because these two games are the biggest draws of the console.

But do you want to keep on playing these two games? Then there might be a solution. Sometimes players band together among themselves and campaign to keep the servers running as well.

Now, whether that will happen for these two games or not, that remains to be seen. But for now, you have till December 2021 to play Halo and May 2022 to play Metal Gear Solid 5. “Xbox 360 servers shutting down”
